Faversham Town U13 v Dover Athletic

1-4

Good level of support for our first home game at Salters Lane, Faversham. Sunny, blustery conditions for our first home match. Only Joe is not available through injury. Faversham Town make their, what has become their trademark, bright start and test the Dover keeper with an early shot by Jaydn. Unfortunately, what has also become Faversham’s trademark, is to concede an early goal. Nobody could do anything about the Dover players worldly from fully 35 yds into the top right hand corner after 7 mins. The first half remained very tight with both teams competing for control. Then a Dover player strikes another wonder shot from 30yds out and was about to go into the top right hand corner again, when Archie flung himself to his left and somehow managed to get his left hand to push the ball round the post. Amazing save! This seemed to spur Faversham into action and for the last 20 mins of the first half they lay siege to the Dover goal. Faversham played their best football of the game and had 3 or 4 great chances to level the game, including hitting the post and the ball running along the line! Faversham just weren’t getting the ‘rub of the green’ and the ref turned down a stonewall penalty! Dover were relieved the whistle went for half time, going in 1-0 up.

1st Half stats:

Opponents: 7 shots, 5 on Target & 1 goal.
Faversham Town: 9 shots & 7 on target

4 changes for Faversham Town at half time, which appeared to disrupt their flow, as Dover started very brightly and within 3 mins of the restart they extended their lead following a break down the left. Dover continued to dominate and following another sortie into Faversham’s penalty area, Archie made an amazing double save, only to clear the ball into the back of our defender and then into the net for a very very unlucky own goal! Faversham could not seem to get a foothold into the second half and kept giving the ball away. In a rare move forward Keane was fouled outside the box. Up steps Max who sends a bullet of a shot into the Dover net. Like last week Faversham’s mini revival was over in a flash, as Dover scored with their own free kick. Faversham were left to rue missed chances and excellent Dover goalkeeping to lose 4-1 again to Dover!

2nd half stats:

Opponents: 14 shots, 8 on Target & 3 goals.
Faversham Town: 3 shots, 3 on Target & 1 goal.
