Dover 4 v 1 Faversham Town FC
By Peter Cadogan
Welcome to the start of the Kent Youth League 2018-19 U13 season. We are at a sunny but blustery Tilmastone Colliery Welfare Ground to play the first match of the season against Dover.
Faversham Town had a blow before the game started with Alex and Louie ruled out with injuries!
Despite the set back, Faversham started brightly playing down the slope with the wind behind. Following Faversham’s bright start, Dover had the first chance which Archie saved well. Up the other end, Dover’s keeper cleared his lines but the ball went straight to Jayden who brilliantly lobbed the keeper from 30 yards to open the scoring.
Dover continued to counterattack and Archie continued to deny them an equaliser, And then on the stroke of half time Dover equalised, as Faversham failed to clear their lines?
Faversham had 4 attempts, 2 on Target & 1 goal. Dover had 5 attempts, 3 on Target & 1 goal in the first half.
In the second half Dover came out really strongly, and within a few minutes earned a penalty which was expertly dispatched to take a 2-1 lead. However, Faversham’s character came through and they came back strongly and had 2 clear chances to equalise but missed both open goal opportunities. Whilst Faversham continued to press, the referee turned down a couple of big penalty shouts! It became clear that this was not going to be Faversham’s afternoon!
Dover then went down the other end and were clinical in their finishing and ran out 4-1 winners, which was not a true reflection of the game as a whole.
Attempts in the second half from Faversham were 5 with 1 on Target & no goals. Dover had 9 attempts, with 8 on Target and 3 goals.
