Folkestone 1 v 4 Faversham Town
By Peter Cadogan
10.30 kick off at 3 Hills Sports Centre Folkestone, on a splendid autumnal day. Temperature up in the 20c’s, which make a nice change from the normal weather we have played in at 3 Hills in the past ! Bonus today as we have a full squad to pick from, Alex and Louie pass late fitness test!
Faversham seem up for it today, and start very brightly, having most of the possession in the opening exchanges. Free kick to Faversham on the left, Jayden sends a slide rule cross into the penalty area for Stan to rise majestically and glance a header into the far corner, for Faversham to take a deserved lead. Faversham continue to press, with Jayden and Stan marauding down the left. Another ball in from the left was cut out by the Folkestone defence, only for Jack R to nip in and get the ball, and then be fouled on the very edge of the penalty area. Max steps up to take the free kick and plants a very cute shot, which sneaks in at the near post to easily beat the keeper, to make it 2-0. Folkestone start to press in the last 10 mins of the half and have a number shots on target, only for Archie to stand tall and firm, always being in the right place at the right time.
Half Time stats: Folkestone had attempts 6, all on Target!! Faversham : 5 shots on target: 1 off target. Jayden and Jack assists. 2 goals to Faversham
Faversham start the second half sluggishly! Folkestone press with renewed conviction, and control the play for the first 15 mins, keeping Faversham pegged in their own half. On a counter attack, Alex gets put through to thunder a shot against the bar! Where is VAR when you need it! Folkestone go straight up the other end to also hit the bar! Folkestone break through again and their forward hits a powerful shot that unfortunately squirms through Archie’s hands, and into the net! Game on now at 2-1! However, Faversham suddenly go into another gear, and start playing some scintillating football. The ball comes to Jack R on the right wing, who goes on a mesmerising run to the bye line, and pulls the ball back to the impressive Soren, who had switched from defence in the first game to play up front, and he finishes with aplomb! Faversham now have control of the game and continue playing some great football, which end culminates in Jack R being upended in the penalty area. Jayden calmly steps up, sends the keeper the wrong way, and slots the penalty in off the post.
A week deserved 4-1 win for Faversham. It was an impressive squad performance after last weeks loss. A great attitude from every player who all gave 100%.
2nd half Stats: Folkestone had 4 attempts and all on target. Faversham had 7 attempts, with 5 on Target. 2 goals and 2 assists from Jack R.
