’ Town pick up a point ’
Tenterden Town 1-1 Faversham Town Reserves
J Lester x⚽️
Town Travelled through the sunny Kent countryside for the Away meeting v Tenterden. Town edged a 3-2 home win back in October the scorers that day Max Gray and Liam Druggan with a brace. The pitch situated right off the Town’s high street was boggy underfoot and the grass was long not a day for Tiki-taka Football.
Town won the toss and captain Dan King chose to kick into the sun. After four minutes Town had their first scare a Tenterden move down the left flank produces a cross to the back post luckily for Town the unmarked Tenterden player blazed his effort high and wide.
The first half was a stop-start affair both teams pulled up for offsides. Joe Lester worked tirelessly up front bulldozing through the Tenterden defence on two occasions to no avail.
Towns last fixture was March 24th and the two weeks lay off showed the young Lilywhites struggling to keep position and get a foothold in a scrappy first half.
With the first half under their belts, Town came out and took the game to Tenterden Ryan Clark came off the bench to add his strength up front Reece Bedford moved out wide for the injured Callum Leader who came off with a dead leg. Town looked more of a threat with the linesman’s flags not horizontal this half. Abdul returning from uni and alongside George Greenway and Druggan in midfield started feeding the ball into the Tenterden area for the Town frontmen.
Although Tenterden still a threat on the break Dan King with a superbly timed sliding tackle to thwart the Tenterden forward.
Great movement up front from Ryan Clark to get behind the Tenterden backline but his lob over the oncoming keeper also cleared the crossbar.
With all Towns second-half pressure, Tenterden broke the deadlock breaking down the right side a ball back across the Town area a miss clearance and Matt Bowey had no chance when it fell to the Tenterden forward.
The young Lilywhites had a fight on their hands to come back now in this close affair. Not the first time this season that Town has had to dig in and get a goal back. And so they did within three minutes a clearance from keeper Bowey to the unmarked Liam Druggan who brought the ball down turned and played a great ball wide to Jordan Holliday who’s cross from the byline into the path of forward Joe Lester who made no mistake with his controlled finish
Town with their tails up and pressing for a win Joe Lester holding the ball up shrugging off two defenders but his ambitious shot from distance not troubling the Tenterden goal. Then Lester again driving at the Tenterden goal this time chose to pass to Clark and the chance blocked. With seconds on the clock, the ball looped up just inside the Tenterden area Lester’s volleyed brought a great one-handed save from the keeper who pushed the effort over the bar.
Disappointment for Town looking for a win the Lilywhites with players missing today and injuries not having fixtures every Saturday doesn’t help. A difficult pitch to play on but no excuses it’s the same for both teams. So in the circumstances a good away point against a well organised Tenterden side. Man of the match Joe Lester worked tirelessly for the full 90 minutes.
