”RED LESTER DOUBLE ”
By Scott Greenway
FAVERSHAM Town Reserves 3-3 Staplehurst Monarchs Reserves
J Lester ⚽️⚽️
W Waring ⚽️
Town welcomed Staplehurst Monarchs Reserves to Sharsted Sports their previous league meeting five weeks previous sore Town run out 4-0 winners. Town only having played one league fixture since that encounter looked rusty and started slow. Only 5 minutes in and a free kick conceded by Faversham inside the town half found the attacking Monarchs player for a free header.
Town still looked half asleep when Staplehurst doubled their lead two Monarchs players breaking from the halfway line giving Town Keeper Ellis Wood little chance
0-2 ⚽️13 mins
Town had an up him battle on their hands now but did give themselves some hope when Reece Bedford brought the ball down and played a through ball to his centre-forward Joe Lester with Lester advancing pressure the Monarchs defender could only misguide his clearance and Lester pounced for a calm and collective finish.
1-2 ⚽️20 mins
Within 9 mins of going two goals behind Faversham were back level Lester again. This time Ryan Clark with the assist but it was Christian-Vale’s persistence that started the move his first challenge just inside the Monarchs half and then carried his run on to win the second ball this allowed Clark to play in Lester who still had plenty to do heading down the left flank but Lester cut inside and finished neatly into the bottom right hand corner of the goal.
All Lester’s hard work was undone after only 25mins Lester battling to chase down and win the ball from a Monarchs defender bundling over his man in the progress. The referee gave Monarchs the free kick but the Staplehurst man lashed out with an off the ball kick at Lester and the pushing and shoving ensued this gave the referee no option than send both men off for an early bath. Both teams settled down after the hectic start and went in at the break all square.
Town now applying some pressure and taking the game to Staplehurst Will Waring making headway down the left but his shot not troubling the Staplehurst Keeper. Monarchs still looking dangerous when they got forward and they punished Faversham again to take the lead 2-3
Town have only lost twice at home in the league this season and were desperate for the equaliser. And it eventually came with only 5mins left on the clock great persistence from Sean Mchugh in midfield and his pass set Ryan Clark racing clear and drawing the keeper out his unselfish pass picking out Will Waring at the back post for his first goal for Town.
It felt like points dropped for Town after their impressive Away win v Monarchs last month. But the young Lilywhites should take some credit for their fight back from 0-2 down after only 20mins and then again at 2-3 with little time remaining on the clock. M.o.m DC worked hard down the right flank always looking to get forward.
