This was Faversham Towns first home game of 2017 with a return to the league campaign with a much needed moral boosting win.
Faversham Town u18's finally got back to league football and back to Salters Lane to record their first win in 2017.
Town started brightly with Harry Sargent immediately creating havoc for the visiting defense.
Sarge tormented his opponents with his pace and direct runs twisting and turning with menace.
This seemed to inspire the rest of the team as the home team quickly took control of the game.
The front 3 of Harry Sargent, Zac Argent & Samuel George were looking threatening. Full of pace and power but most importantly working for each other.
The midfield were sharp with George Greenway & Louis Bioletti supporting the powerhouse that is Abdul-Rahman Sunmonu.
The previous 2 games had shown an improvement from the lads but this was another step up.
The belief seemed to be back and smiles were finally back on their faces.
It took until almost the half hour mark for Town to finally get their reward.
A corner resulted in a bit of a melee with Samuel George being quickest to find the opportunity to poach a goal from close range.
1-0 to Town with confidence growing all the time.
Town continued to push forward looking for more goals and were rewarded a penalty close to half time when Zac Argent intelligently ran across his opponent running into the box from the right. His opponent gambled and made a tackle bringing Argent down on the edge of the box. The ref consulted with the lino and decided it was inside the area - penalty.
Jack Osborne stepped up to coolly slot home but proved he's human by putting his effort wide of the right post.
Within 2 minutes Town did manage to double their lead when Samuel George again slotted home from close range.
Half Time 2-0 to Town. A commanding half from the hosts.
The second half started with our visitors Sevenoaks renewed with energy and determination to get back into the game.
It was important for Town to get through this patch unscathed as the recent poor run could resurface.
6 minutes into the second half Towns nerves were settled however as Zac Argent got in behind his fullback to put a cross over to the far post for Harry Sargent to tap home. A lovely move.
Town settled and retook control of the game.
On the hour mark Sevenoaks scored to make things interesting.
For the next 15 minutes the visitors played their best football with Town now looking vulnerable.
If the visitors had got another goal it would have been really tough for Town to hold on.
Fortunately Town weathered the storm and regained control of the game.
The last 15 minutes Town had chances to increase their lead further with Harry Sargent going closest after smashing the crossbar from 20 yards.
Final Score 3-1 and a much needed win.
For the most part this was a commanding performance from Town where the scoreline could well have been greater.
Great to see the lads getting a win at last and particularly good to see the smiles back on their faces.
Man of the Match: Harry Sargent. Harry started so brightly that it seemed inspire the rest of the team into playing with the confidence and quality that we know they can do.
Also worth a mention: Zac Argent & Samuel George ably assisted Harry in threatening the Sevenoaks defense throughout the game.
Toby Greenfield was also immense at the back as per usual.
