“I think we looked a lot sharper tonight.”
Ray Turner, Manager
He spoke of his satisfaction in a post-match interview on FTFC TV following a match that came alive in a whirlwind start to the second half.
Greenwich's keeper Jordan Carey was sent off conceding the first of two quick penalties in the 51st minute.
Harry Goodger fired home the first but blazed the second over minutes later.
Ten-man Greenwich equalised, but when Dean Grant dribbled through and slotted the ball home to make it 2-1 it seemed the Lilywhites would progress without drama.
However, the visitors levelled again to take the match to penalties.
After Simon Overland saved one Greenwich spot kick and another hit the bar, it was left to Renford Tenyue to stroke home the winning penalty and take Town through.
Smiling Ray said: "I thought it was entertaining. I thought we played really well in spells.
"They didn't quite go away and I think we probably helped that situation. the second penalty probably would have killed the game."
He told how he was much happier with the squad's fitness that in the opening day draw against Herne Bay, adding: "I thought we looked a lot sharper tonight. I think we kept our pace in the game up really well."
Ray also said he had set out to add experience and physical strength up front to the squad in the closed season.
He said: "I really wanted to give us more firepower up front. I think we've got a threat now."
