"Davey does it in Extra Time"
Faversham Town Reserves back in action after the Christmas break welcomed Thamesmead Sports Reserves for their Kent junior cup fixture. Sports going well this season currently 4th placed in Kent county division 2 West. Both teams showed there commitment early with some strong tackles in a physical encounter. Twenty minutes in and it was Town who broke the deadlock. Theo White playing a ball into the Sports area found Joe Lester who beat his marker to head his Captain Dan King in on goal but King was brought down by the sports defender for a Faversham penalty. Towns top scorer Joe Lester lined up to take the penalty and made no mistake sending the keeper the wrong way slotting in the bottom right corner. Towns lead rattled Thamemead and put the visitors on the back foot but Town couldn’t manage a second goal.
Town introduced new signing Alex Pooley up front for his debut along with Reece Bedford. The second half started an even affair then a break by Sports drew them level the ball into the Sports forward left Town Keeper Matt Bowey little chance 1-1. Town still looking dangerous going forward but had goalkeeper Bowey to thank for keeping the score level a great save diving full stretch low across his goal with his fingertips guiding the ball wide. The Referee blew for full time and Town had another 30 minutes of extra time to win the game.
Extra time was underway with
Ellis Holliday and George Greenway coming on in midfield for some fresh legs. The first half flew past with the game becoming more stretched.
Second half of extra time was underway and Town’s defence of Griffths, Macca Jordan Holliday and Wheeler looked comfortable dealing with any Sports threat on goal until Faverham stopper Bowey was needed again pulling off a fantastic right handed save pushing the Sports strikers fierce close range shot high over his crossbar. Town pushing on for the win threw on another forward sacrificing defender Jordan Holliday who had an excellent game. With seconds remaining Town won a corner Druggan’s excellent probing ball into the Sports area picked out his team mate Lester. Lester with a great leap flicked his header across goal to the back post and Alfie Davey was on hand to stab the ball home and send Faversham Town into the quarter finals.
Great result for the young Lilywhites after a four week lay off against a strong Thamesmead sports. It was a team performance that clinched the win Sam Wheeler covered every blade of grass with an energetic performance but man of the match has to go to Matt Bowey. The Town keeper made two unbelievable saves to ensure his team go into the next round.
