BOB HEWARD

1 month ago By Brian Flynn

FAVERSHAM TOWN would like to extend their condolences to the family of Lilywhites legend Bob Heward, who has passed away.

“He will be missed by a lot of people.” Former Town manager Pat Miles
Bob was born and bred in Faversham and played for Town in the late 60s, as a left back, before going on to manage the reserves in the 1980s.
In 1984, he became first team assistant manager alongside Pat Miles for two seasons, as the club competed in the Kent League.
When Faversham Town reformed in 2005, Bob was again one of the key figures in the revival.
He remained one of the hard-working Monday Club volunteers, who help at the stadium each week, until very recently.
As well as being a talented footballer, he was an all-round sportsman and played cricket for Sheldwich for many years.
Former Lilywhites manager Pat Miles recalled how before retiring, Bob worked at Chatham Dockyards on Royal Navy nuclear submarines, and would often go out on trials at sea.
He added: “Bob was a great friend and a familiar face at Salters Lane for so long.
“He knew his sport and has a terrific understanding of football. He was a great tactician, and when I was made manager I quickly asked him to join me as my assistant.
“He could play a wide range of sports from snooker and darts to cricket and golf. He loved Faversham Town and was loyal for more than 50 years in various capacities.
"He was always willing to join in and do anything to improve the club.
“You could rely on Bob. If you had a problem, he was always there to help. He will be missed by a lot of people.”
Bob, who was 78, is survived by wife Maureen, children Jonathon and Victoria, and four grandchildren.
He will be missed by all of us at Faversham Town FC, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.
