Dover Athletic 4 Faversham Town 4

ADAM OXBERRY and Luke O'Regan both scored twice as Faversham Town Youth came within two minutes of securing back-to-back victories on Sunday.

Boss Ray Turner and his young guns went into this league clash just five days after a 1-0 win over Crockenhill in the John Ullman Cup - their first success of the season.

And they built on that performance with another excellent display that saw them lead 4-3 as the clock ticked down towards full time in Dover on Saturday.

But they were undone by a cruel twist of fate when Dover - who had a man sent off near the close - fired a late shot that took a deflection and beat goalkeeper Dan Smith to force a share of the spoils.

Incredibly, Town - with Dan Gurr in for Jack Gray on the right and Harrison Grant replacing Nikki Ede on the left - were 2-0 down inside 20 minutes after two individual errors in the strong prevailing wind.

It was mid-way through the half before the visitors started to pass the ball well, forcing the play wide and this caused Dover problems.

Sam Couzins crafted a chance 10 minutes before half-time and Oxberry showed his sharpness to fire home, sending the sides into the break with Dover's advantage cut to 2-1.

Town produced their best football of the season just after the break and O'Regan levelled the contest with a stunning right-foot drive into the top corner.

It was no surprise when Town went into a 3-2 lead with man-of-the-match O'Regan dishing up a carbon-copy effort from the right-hand side of the box.

Town were jubilant and it showed in their football but three more chances came and went.
This led to a loss in concentration and Dover made it 3-3 with a goal that saw the balance of power shift once more.

The home side surged forward but, suddenly, Town struck again with O'Regan pulling the ball back to Oxberry. It looked like the pass was a bit behind the striker but he kept his marker at bay and lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper.

The game then became rather messy and Dover's frustration boiled over when a player was sent off for violent conduct following a clash with Dan Gurr.

Unfortunately, Town did not have time to capitalise and Dover equalised when a free-kick was deflected beyond the reach of young Smith in the Faversham goal.

Turner concluded: "I must admit it felt like a defeat to me and the players but feeling dejected that we didn't win when we are travelling away can only be a good thing.

"There were some great individual performances, the two goal scorers, and once again James Easter and Brad Doyle impressed. I was pleased for Dan Gurr also who had a strong game .

"Overall, individual errors were costly but we produced our best football of the season so I'm delighted with their efforts. Once again gave me everything."

Town: Dan Smith, Dan Gurr, Harrison Grant, Phil Battersby, Brad Doyle, James Easter, Hugo Gaskin, Adam Lawrence, Adam Oxberry, Luke O'Regan, Sam Couzins. Substitutes: Sam Parter (for Gaskin, 70 minutes), Liam Gould (not used).

Faversham Town Youth look to extend their unbeaten run to three games with a trip to Deal Town on Sunday morning (kick-off 11).
