Faversham Town Reserves 2
Greenwich Borough Reserves 3
BRETT HARRISON saw his Faversham Town
Reserves squander a 2-0 lead in their big Kent League debut and
revealed: Our fitness let us down out there.
Nicky Scott fired the opener on 11
minutes before a 24th-minute own goal put the Lilywhites in control
in front of a crowd of 54 at Salters Lane.
But back came Borough who drew level
before the break and went on to claim all three points despite a
late rally from Town.
Player-boss Harrison said: "A
slight lack of fitness played its part when we ran out of steam in
the first half, then they pounced."
It was all going so well for Town in
their Kent League Two opener with Scott's low drive breaking the
deadlock.
Greenwich defender Dixon-Baker made
it 2-0 when he found his own net and a home victory looked a
formality.
But Town stuttered and then stumbled
allowing Greenwich back into the game.
Well-struck goals by Steele and
Mohamed brought the sides level at half-time and Borough were in the
driving seat after the break when they took an early lead.
Town rallied in the last 20 minutes,
but could not quite find the equaliser no matter how hard they
tried.
First, Michael Seagers nearly scored
direct from a corner and then Scott had a close-range effort ruled
out for offside.
Town must have realised it was not
going to be their day when Scott was denied the unlikeliest of
equalisers.
Bizarrely, the "chance"
came after Scott crashed to the ground near the penalty spot where
he lay motionless.
The ball fell to team-mate Bradley
Maguire who quickly realised the need to put the ball out of play.
However, Maguire decided it was as
good a time as any for some shooting practice and let fly with a
quick strike on goal.
Incredibly, the effort struck the
stricken Scott on the head before arcing beyond goalkeeper Banjo and
just the wrong side of a post.
Had it gone in, it WOULD have counted
although Scott's dressing room claims of a well-placed header were
ignored.
Town's top man: Andy Langridge,
