TERRY CORDICE has brought forward the
start of Faversham Town's pre-season training, insisting: It's open
house at Salters Lane.
Lilywhites boss Cordice refuses to be
drawn on his transfer targets for the re-formed club's first
campaign in the Kent League.
But he is expecting a big turn-out
when he starts putting the players through their paces on Tuesday,
27th June.
Pre-season training had originally
been scheduled to start on 4th July but Cordice said: "The
season starts on 12th August so our original date did not really
leave us enough time.
"We plan to train three times a
week and we're raring to go already. We've had one or two players
showing an interest in playing for us next season but I don't want
to name names at this stage.
"Like last summer, we will
operate an open-door policy. Then we can look at everyone and go
from there. Everyone will get a chance to shine."
Two players who look certain not to
be appearing for Town next season are Rikki and Ross Cable.
The club's top two scorers in the
Kent County League have decided to move on although Cordice insists
he has heard nothing from either player about their plans for next
season.
He said: "I am told that Ross is
not coming back and that is his decision, however, I'm not sure that
means we won't be seeing Rikki. We'll just have to wait and
see."
Cordice is bubbling ahead of his
first season as the manager of a Kent League side. He sat down with
club chiefs last week to discuss the new campaign and revealed that
the talks had gone well.
He said: "The guys on the
committee have provided us with the backing we were after so we are
very pleased. The Kent League represents an exciting challenge and
we're hopeful of building a team the fans can be proud of."
Chief executive John Webb has chaired
pre-season meetings with Cordice and his assistant Peter Holder as
well as reserve team boss Brett Harrison and his new No 2 Kevin
Simms.
Webb revealed: "Both meetings
went very well and we are delighted to welcome Kevin aboard. He
replaces Ray Mills who deserves a big thank you for all his work
both on and off the park during our first season.
"The committee were saddened
that Ray had decided to hang up his management boots, but it is a
decision that, reluctantly, we have agreed to.
"Brett recommended Kevin Simms
to us. Kevin is an ex player for the Town and has gone on to manage
successful local sides, so he comes with the credentials the club is
looking for.
"With the Reserves now playing
in the Kent League Division 2, we see the role of the team changing
in the light of our promotion. It is clear that TC is likely to
bring in new faces to mount an assault on the league.
"This will mean that some of the
players currently considered within the first team squad may be
called upon for reserve duties. All players, when signed, agree to
play for any side the managers see fit.
"This is no different to any
successful club and Faversham Town want to install this policy from
the outset of our life in the Kent League . Also we want to promote
local players so they can play for the Town at the highest level.
"This aim is one of the
fundamental reasons the club was re-formed in the first place. Brett
and Kevin have a great knowledge of local talent within the town.
"We expect them to use this
knowledge to bring in this talent so it can flourish on the pitch at
Salters Lane. Added to this players from our newly formed Under 18
side will also be considered for reserve and even maybe first team
duties and you can see this is an exciting time for the club."
Webb said the club's tremendous fan
base - which saw Town achieve an average home gate of more than 200
- deserved a side that was successful both on and off the pitch.
He said: "We owe our loyal
supporters every opportunity to support a well-organised, successful
club, the committee have worked tirelessly to make facilities and
funds available so this can be achieved.
"The first team management are
now fully aware of these requirements and I am pleased to announce
that both TC and Peter Holder's agreements have been extended by
another 12 months.
"Stepping up a league has also
brought its challenges. Although new and exciting challenges, we
still need to keep our feet on the ground and build a well organised
disciplined team that accommodates promotion of players through the
ranks, to represent Faversham Town at the highest level.
"Investment in the team will
also be financial with a large increase in expenses. If we wish to
compete on a level footing with other successful teams in this
league, on the field, then we have to compete with these teams in
the professional organisation and set up off the field, to attract
the type of players we need to achieve our aims.
"TC and Peter have now been
given permission to start the team building process for next season
by retaining the players they wish to keep and by bringing in new
faces to add to the depth and quality of the team."
