Faversham Town Football Club chalked up their first away victory last
weekend when they travelled down to take on a very good Deal Town side.
"Deal was always going to be a difficult place to go" Town manager
Justin Luchford said
following the victory. "We made a couple of changes from the previous
week and it set us up
big and strong which we needed to be.
"I thought Deal had the better of the early exchanges as we struggled to
settle down and get
the ball forward. The turning point of the game was definitely the
sending off. It was a silly sending off from their point of view and it
gave us confidence.
"After five minutes we settled and then got a great goal from Damian
[Abel], from a great ball by Josh Maasbach]. The second half was all us
really as we put more pressure on and Dane [Luchford] making two goals
for Souts [Dave Soutan]. We were worthy winners in the end but the
sending off definitely helped."
Luchford was full of praise for the youngster between the sticks this
week. "Carl [Hodgson] has been magnificent for the last two weeks and he
deserved that. He, and we, needed that clean sheet"
The victory moves Town up to fifth in the Bulmers Cider Kent League
Premier Division but the manager does not seem too concerned about
league positions at the moment, the favoured 'in-
house' targets are more important at this stage of the season.
"We have our targets in house and we have reached them going into
October, which is very
pleasing.
"To break the duck away from home was also important and I hope we can
now go on a bit of a
consistent run. We are very inconsistent at the moment and consistency
is the key in this league.
"Morale has always been high in the dressing room" said Luchford "I
don't think any team has
played us off the pitch yet, but there is a lot more to come from this
side and we will get better".
I for one can't wait!
The manager pointed out that the league was number one priority for the
club and had this to
say about the current campaign "Deal [last weekend] and Norton next week
are always going to
be tough and then we were meant to play Hythe, but that has now been
re-scheduled to later
in the month. If we can pick up points next week then that will do
nicely but it will be tough.
"Next week is a local derby match on their patch. They will want revenge [for the opening
day defeat at Salters Lane] but we just have to be professional and go
and do what is asked
of us. We have to keep working hard and we will reap the rewards from
that hard work."
The re-scheduled Hythe match means that the Town now have a weekend off
which the manager
was not happy about. "Not having a game that week is not good at all. We
don't need a break
and don't want one either. There is not a lot we can do about it, but on
the plus side it gives us time to rest and prepare for three games in
eight days. We will need the whole squad for those games and players
will have to be used wisely."
Town may welcome back Mike McKenna for the trip to play Norton next
weekend. "Mike may come into contention, but for the sake of one week I
may rest Mike and Kevin to get them ready
for the triple header" said manager Luchford.
The club currently are on a high as the Reserves and the under eighteens
are also getting good results and rave reviews. First Team Manager
Justin Luchford was excited about the future of the football club. "The
Reserves are doing well as are the U18's. They were a credit to the club
in the FA Youth Cup and after winning again today it's been a great
weekend for the club.
"Things do look bright and we are delighted with the way things are
going. Still such a long way to go though and we can take nothing for
granted.
"We have to keep being professional and continue our work ethic and the
club will keep moving forward."
The first team travel down to take on Norton at Herne Bay on Saturday,
kick off 3.00pm. The
Reserves are also on their travels to take on Holmesdale Reserves in the
Division 1/2 Cup.
The Under Eighteens have a weekend off.
