Following last weekend's departure from the F.A.Cup at the hands of Hythe Town Justin Luchford's Lilywhites returned to the Reachfields Stadium with a point to prove as they sought revenge against the seasiders, and prove a point they did as they put in a solid and impressive performance to take all three points.

Town demonstrated that they have team spirit in abundance as they dominated proceedings for much of the 90 minutes restricting the home side to only two real chances on goal.

Hythe were forced into an early change with Goalkeeper Kieron Mann leaving the field after only 3 minutes of play and before he'd even touched the ball, Mann picked up an injury during the warm up meaning that their reserve keeper Jon Sparks had to dash back across Kent from Salters Lane to take part.

As the visitors pressed hard the Hythe defence looked vulnerable and Town should have taken advantage as chances from former Hythe players Buster Smissen and Damian Able flashed across Sparks' goal. Lee Shearer also had an opportunity in the first half rising high to connect with Dale Skelton's corner kick only to see his effort deflected by the keeper.

Smissen looked lively in front of his former team mates and was unlucky to pick up a yellow card after being dragged to the floor by Hythe's skipper Tom Adlington, Adlington booked for his shirt pulling whilst Smissen was penalised for his retaliation after the event.

Following the break the Lilywhites continued to dominate against a Hythe side clearly not at the races, although Town keeper Rob French did well to deny a well struck effort from Lee Winfield albeit that Winfield's effort appeared to be wide of the intended target.

On 63 minutes Town were rewarded for their efforts taking the lead courtesy of a Smissen strike from close range to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Hythe were now spurred into action bringing the game to the Lilywhites and finally applying pressure to an otherwise untroubled Town defence.

Hythe's purple patch paid dividends when Kieran Byrne found the space to send a low shot past French to level the scores on 83 minutes and , as with the cup match 7 days earlier a tense end to the match ensued.

Richard Sinden came on to replace the hard working Smissen and was soon causing problems for a Hythe defence that had never really settled throughout the game.

The Lilywhites remained focused and further chances fell for Luchford and Skelton before Sinden sealed victory in the dying minutes, a ball into the area was headed towards the top right of Sparks' goal to be met by Sinden who launched himself at the ball to head home.

The final seconds of the game saw further drama with Town content to wind down the clock Hythe's frustration boiled over with Skipper Adlington picking up his second yellow of the afternoon.

Full marks to the Lilywhites for an impressive performance - two games in seven days at the Reachfields, Hythe picked up the 3 grand but Faversham Town will be content with 3 points.

The Lilywhites are next in action this coming Wednesday evening when they travel to face second placed Herne Bay who are yet to drop a point in the league this season - kick-off is at 19:45.
