A first half Tom Hickman strike and a second half goal from 'Super Sub' Richard Sinden earned the home side three valuable points as Justin Luchford's Lilywhites completed a League double over Scott Porter's Hythe side in front of a bumper crowd of 327 at Salters Lane.

Faversham started brightly with Dave Soutan forcing Kieron Mann into an early save with a well placed header and when Dale Skelton narrowly failed to connect with a low cross that the Hythe defence failed to deal with it looked as though the home side were set to continue their current goal fest having scored 12 in their 2 previous home fixtures.

The breakthrough came on 13 minutes when the visitors could only half clear a long throw-in from Ashley Brown, the ball falling to skipper Hickman who drove the ball low and hard into the bottom left corner of Mann's goal.

Hythe continued to make a game of it on what was a very heavy Salters Lane pitch with Byrne and Cook both going close before being gifted an equaliser on 30 minutes. Hythe's Martin Chandler's high cross into the Town area appeared to have been well taken by Rob French before the Town keeper lost his footing under pressure from former Town front man Craig Thompson with French judged to have taken the ball over the goal line.

The home side thought that they had regained the lead within minutes following Lee Shearer's powerful header appeared to have crossed the line before being headed out by a Hythe defender, and while most of the crowd and players from both sides though it was a goal the referee and his assistant were happy for play to continue.

An injury to Dane Luchford forced an early substitution with Luchford making way for former Hythe striker Richard Sinden on 35 minutes.

The second half saw Town continue to attack, John-Paul Collier seeing a long distance effort fly just the wrong side of Mann's crossbar.

The 3 points were effectively sealed on 52 minutes, Sinden latching on to a through ball from Skelton - his first shot being denied by the post before tapping home the rebound to net his 10th goal as a Lilywhite.

The second goal appeared to kill off what little ambition the visitors had as Town seemed content just to retain possession as the clock ticked away.

Collier showed several glimpses of brilliance as he danced his way through the Hythe defence on more than one occasion to delight the home crowd.

Sinden almost doubled his tally for the day forcing a fine save out of Mann before the visitors rallied for the final minutes, Thompson's long range effort easily collected by French before Dave Cook saw a well placed shot from the edge of the area beat the Town keeper only to be denied by the upright as many inside Salters Lane held their breath.

The victory now sees the Lilywhites extend their lead at the top to thirteen points with second placed Herne Bay still with 4 games in hand.

The Lilywhites take a break from league action this coming Saturday as they prepare for the first of 2 Cup Semi Finals when they play host to Deal Town in the Kent Senior Trophy - kick-off at 3pm.
