TERRY CORDICE believes the ill-fated
attempt to sign Marcus Hodges
could have cost Faversham Town the British Energy Kent County League
title.
Boss Cordice is a massive fans of the
Bromley Green striker who looks
certain to finish the season as the Premier Division's top scorer
having already scored 27 goals in all competitions with one game
still
to play.
And Town fans were celebrating when
Hodges - who moved to Faversham
earlier this year - signed transfer forms in January following a
seven-day approach to the Ashford club.
But the deal was scuppered when
Hodges opted to stay put - a decision
Cordice believes proved crucial.
He revealed: "I think that our
failure to sign Marcus Hodges was
critical. If we had got him in this side then we would have wrapped
up
the title.
"The league was in our hands for
a long time. Despite a shaky start
defensively we have improved a great deal at the back. It is up
front
where we have struggled at times and the lack of a natural
goalscorer
cost us."
Cordice's challenge for the title
ended with Saturday's 2-0 defeat to
Lewisham Borough, a game watched by another incredible home gate of
423.
Town's attendances in their debut
season have raised eyebrows all
over the county and Cordice was quick to praise the fans.
He said: "Our supporters were
absolutely fantastic and I would like
to thank them all for their support not only today but for the whole
season. They've done everything they can to help us along the way.
I'm
just sorry we couldn't give them something to cheer about."
