THE Silver Backs are squaring up to
the Pink Pigs with the Lardies
waiting to pounce on those egg-chasing Castaways.
Yes, it is the 2006 Bob Mason Classic
with more than 100 golfers
expected to tee it up at Boughton Golf on Friday, 28th July.
The third annual event - which this
year incorporates a posh Summer
Party at Salters Lane in the evening - always attracts a colourful
mix of good and not-so-good golfers.
REAL SWINGER..chairman Bob Mason
is gearing up for his golf day
And this year promises to be no
exception with a debut bid from the
Silver Backs captained by die-hard Faversham Town supporter Ron
Myers.
Fellow new boys The Pink Pigs are led
by Martin Apps, landlord of
Faversham pub The Bull Inn, and former Town goalkeeper Scott
Davenport goes into battle in charge of The Lardies.
The Ex-Salters Lane Keeper's Union is
further represented by John
Gannon's team FORE while Faversham Rugby Club tackle golf with Bob
Mason's son Dan heading up the Castaways.
The 27-hole event comprises an
18-hole morning Stableford followed
by the ever-popular nine-hole Texas Scramble with players entering
in
teams of four.
Prizes are on offer to the first
three teams and individuals in the
morning and the first three teams in the afternoon.
Nearest the pin and longest drive
competitions will also be held but
Bob Mason is more interested in his potential rivals for the mystery
prize on offer to the best dressed team.
Bob, who is no stranger to plus fours
and similarly dodgy sweaters,
said: "It could be very interesting that's for sure. It sounds
like
some of the strides on show will be straight from a paint factory
explosion.
"My tailor is on the case as we
speak - I have a reputation to dress
down to after all! It's all in good fun and we are hoping for a
bigger and better Bob Mason Classic than ever before.
"That is a big ask to be fair,
because the golf day has been our
biggest individual fund-raiser over the last couple of years. The
money we raise is absolutely vital to the future success of the
football club."
Bob explained that the presentation
would take place during the
club's Summer Party at Salters Lane in the evening which is open to
golfers and non-golfers alike.
He said: "The golf day has
always been a lot of fun and we are
really going for it this year by combining the golf with our Summer
Party in the evening.
"A marquee is going up on the
pitch, there's a hog roast, music,
dancing and a comedian. I'd like to offer an open invitation for
everyone to come up and join the fun in the evening. It should be a
great day all round."
Time is running out if you would like
to play in the Bob Mason
Classic with the entry list closing at noon on Friday.
Entries are being invited for teams
of four at £60 per player, £240
