Justin Luchford's Lilywhites regained their pre-Christmas form and extended the gap at the top of the league to 10 points as they ground out a result on a very heavy Champion's Hill pitch.

The visitors dominated from the first whistle and posed a threat to the home defence with almost every attack.

Jack Tanner and Damian Abel combined well on the right flank on several occaisions before sending the ball into the Fisher area where a nervy Fisher defence were being marshalled by a less than confident looking Adam Lisney in goal.

Despite creating the chances the visitors were unable to capitalise and convert their efforts with Lee Shearer and Richard Sinden both going close.

The deadlock was finally broken seconds before the end of the first period, a right sided cross was met by the powerful head of Shearer who made no mistake as headed home for his second goal in 3 days giving his side the advantage at the interval.

Town were possibly still celebrating as the second period got underway with the hosts back on level terms within a minute of the restart, Luke Coleman appeared to be unchallenged as he fired home past Rob French in the Town goal.

Briefly bouyed by the equaliser the home side were soon on the back foot with the visitors regaining the advantage on the hour mark. Abel received the ball on the right side of play just inside the Fisher half before setting of down the touchline skipping past two defenders before cutting inside and unleashing a powerful strike which flew into the top right corner leaving the unfortunate Lisney rooted to the spot.

Town continued to apply the pressure and were denied consistently by a now revitalised Lisney, whose hesitency of the first half was replaced by a brave performance pulling off a string of fine saves to thwart the Town strikeforce.

The Lilywhites were reduced to 10 men for the last ten minutes of the match, Richard Sinden picking up a second yellow card for simulation as he took a tumble on the edge of the Fisher area.

Despite the shortfall in numbers Town continued to push forward and were rewarded with their third of the afternoon as Abel beat the offside trap to go one on one with Lisney, as the keeper came out Abel chipped the ball over the keeper into an empty net to secure the victory.
