Having already
qualified for the knockout stage of the Premier
League
Cup
Faversham
Town
manager Terry Cordice was afforded the luxury of being able to
experiment against a side that had yet to record a win in the
competition.
Cordice fielded a
team made up of a mixture from the first team and reserves and also
included two under 18s in the squad.Recent additions to the reserve team Darren Constable and Dean
Walker-McKensie started as did the U18s Dan Gurr at right back.
STEPPING UP A GEAR.....Dan Gurr
makes his first team debut
Whatever the
combination the Lilywhites struggled from the start and never really
looked comfortable as a team although Cordice was grateful for the
opportunity to blood some new players.
“I thought that
Constable and Walker-McKensie both played well as did young Dan Gurr,
the whole point of tonight’s match was to try out a few new faces
without putting players under too much pressure.
COMMITTED AND CONFIDENT......TC
Looking forward to facing Thamesmead this coming weekend.
“With the number of
changes made it was always going to be difficult, Erith &
Belvedere are under a new management team and came here on a high
following their 5-0 win against Sporting Bengal at the weekend.”
The Deres took the
lead on 17 minutes amid some confusion, following an injury stoppage
most of the Town players were expecting the ball to be returned to
goalkeeper James Creed following the restart although the visitors had
other ideas with Steve White making the most of the situation as he
slotted the ball past Creed.
The visitors
continued to threaten the Town goal and, thanks only to some poor
finishing, the teams went into the break with the Deres only one goal
to the good.
Cordice made further
changes during the interval replacing rookie Gurr with Colin Finch
although the trend set in the first period was to be repeated during
the second..
On 58 minutes the
North Kent
side doubled their lead when Mark Nougher received the ball on the
edge of the Town box in what appeared to be an offside position. With no sign of a flag or intervention from Referee Adebayo
Nougher was left unchallenged to fire in the Deres second of the
evening.
“We lacked quality
and never really threatened in the final third.” Cordice commented
after the final whistle.
Strikers John Goodwin
and Adam Oxberry were dispatched to try and salvage something although to be honest pride was the only prize at stake on the 70 minute
mark.
THE FUTURE'S BRGHT.......U18
star Oxberry caused problems for Erith & Belvedere defence
Under 18 s star
Oxberry looked lively on his arrival but the Town side had all but
conceded by this time and a late header from James Holder proved to be
Town’s best effort of the match forcing Deres keeper Neil Murray
into a fine save.
Looking forward to
Town’s visit to league leaders Thamesmead Cordice remained upbeat
and confident.
“We’ll travel to Bayliss Avenue
as the underdogs, no-one will expect us to get anything from the
match.We turned them over
against the run of play at our place so I’m certain that they will
treat us with quite a bit of respect.
“Thamesmead are a
very good side and have the potential to score goals from numerous
positions but I feel confident that we’ll compete and cause them a
few problems.”
Cordice remained
tight-lipped regarding speculation about the signing of Ramsgate
Goal-keeper Jurgen Wild.“An
approach has been made and I feel that we will have a positive
outcome.”
Out of form striker
Graham Taylor received a vote of confidence from his manager following
another lacklustre performance.
“Graham’s not
performing at the moment, I know it and he knows it, but he is a
quality striker going through a lean spell and I have every confidence
that he’ll come good for us.He
is committed to the team and is desperate to do well,”
And while Erith &
Belvedere chase glory in the F.A.Vase this coming weekend against
