Goals from Damian Abel and Lee Shearer mean that Justin Luchford's Lilywhites travel to Park View Road with a one goal advantage into the second leg of this Kent Premier League Cup quarter - final fixture on Tuesday February 2nd.

With a healthy lead in the League and a semi-final place confirmed in the Kent Senior Trophy, Town secured their third victory in six days and looked good value for the win against a Dere's side that ended their unbeaten run in the league.

Ashley Brown returned to partner Lee Shearer in defence while Jack Tanner retained his starting position following an impressive performance in Saturday's away win at Fisher.

First chance at goal fell to the visitors after 8 minutes with a speculative long range effort from Matt Bedford, his effort dropping the wrong side of Rob French's far post.

Dane Luchford's cross from the left fell to Tanner at the far post, Tanner's effort narrowly missing the target after 10 minutes and a minute later Richard Sinden had a shot from within the penalty area which flew wide of the mark as the home side began to dominate proceedings.

Town's early efforts paid dividends on 16 minutes with a through ball into the Dere's area was chased down by Abel who turned inside his defender before striking the ball low into the far left of Matt Bromby's goal - Abel notching up his third goal in two games.

Keeper French was called into action on 22 minutes diving at the feet of David Milton to deny the Dere's striker.

Lee Shearer went close for the home side on 28 minutes - connecting with a well placed corner from Dan Larkin, Shearer's header deflecting off of the post and across the face of the goal.

Furher chances fell to Tanner who fired wide whilst Abel almost doubled the lead with a powerful strike from close range which pole-axed Bromby before being deflected out for a corner kick.

Minutes before half time the impressive Abel made a run to the touchline before squaring the ball into area although just out of reach for the in coming Luchford.

For the second consecutive game the Lilywhites surrendered their lead within minutes of the restart, a partially cleared ball fell to Milton who drove the ball into the bottom left of French's goal.

Not too sure of the contents of Richie Radbourne's team talk but his Dere's side appeared to respond as they started brightly in the second period following a lacklustre display in the opening 45 minutes.

The increase in performance from the visitors saw a positive response from the Lilywhites who restored their advantage on 63 minutes, a well placed corner kick from the left was met by a thundering header from Shearer which flew past Bromby to give the seasoned defender his third headed goal in six days!

Dane Luchford made way on 71 minutes to be replaced by Dave Botterill whilst reserves favourite Craig Preston came on for Sinden after 79 minutes.

Abel and Preston continued to look dangerous going forward as the Dere's seemed content to take a one goal defecit into the second leg next Tuesday evening.

Faversham are without a fixture this coming Saturday although the reserve side are in action as they travel to the Medway Towns to face Lordswood with a 15:00 kick-off.
