It's a phrase that's been done to death but the football cliche "It's a funny old game" seems quite appropriate when used to describe Faversham Town's start to the 2007 / 2008 season.

A pre-season campaign full of promise, a squad full of players raring to perform and a management team brimming with confidence.

Six weeks in and things are not going to plan for Copley's Lilywhites - one point from a possible eighteen in the league, two goals scored whilst a massive twenty-three goals have been conceded sees the side rooted to the bottom of the Kent League Premier Division.

Copley and his team take a break from the league this coming weekend playing host to Hailsham FC in the F.A.Vase competition. Having fallen at the first hurdle last season and already out of the F.A.Cup the Town manager is looking forward to the fixture and remains positive in his outlook.

"We are going into Saturday's game with no injury worries. My only disappointment is that Liam Morris our new signing is not eligible to play in the Vase.

I watched the reserve game last night (Tuesday)and was hugely impressed with Gary Robinson, so much so that I intend to bring him into the squad for Saturday.

I've always been keen to recruit from the reserves, and Dave Read, RayTurner and Andy Langdridge are testament to this. Gary's worked hard and deserves his chance."

Having picked up their first league point last weekend with a scrappy one - one draw away at Sporting Bengal Copley has openly criticised the team but remains adamant that he can turn things around.

"We are mixing things up a bit this Saturday, changes have been made. The message from me to the players is that we need to win and it doesn't have to be pretty. I'll take a deflected goal off the referees' backside in the last
minute as long as we get a result.

As I said on Saturday it's been a dreadful start to the season and players are now playing for their future at
the club, individual performances have to improve."
