With Hythe not in action Thamesmead took full advantage with a 2-1 win at home to bottom club Holmesdale. Former Lilywhite Rikki Cable gave Mead a fifteenth minute lead but Danny McDiarmid equalised for the visitors ten minutes before the break. James Brown hit the winner on 73 minutes to put Thamesmead top.

Beckenham are second after a comfortable 4-1 win at home to Erith Town. Theo Fairweather-Johnson set them on the way with a 16th minute strike, a lead doubled by former Sevenoaks striker Tony Atkins on the half hour mark. Alan Matthews reduced the deficit ten minutes after the restart but goals from Tommy Youle and Pat Hitchin saw the Becks home safely.

Highest aggregate score of the day was at The Small Glen where Slade Green and Deal Town shared six goals. Chris Johnston opened the scoring for the home side on 14 minutes but goals from Adam Govey, Danny Smith and Roy Godden put the seasiders in front by half time. Late goals from the two Lees, Barnett and Woodyard, rescued a point for Green, their fourth draw at home this season.

Wilfred Gnaly was the Greenwich scorer as they beat Erith and Belvedere 1-0, while a Martin Chandler penalty saw Herne Bay beat Croydon by the same score at Winch’s Field.

With the Tunbridge Wells v Lordswood match falling foul of a persistent drizzle we have moved up one place to 13th on 24 points from 25 games thanks to our 2-0 win over Sporting Bengal who remain 16th. Lordswood are 14th on 22 points from the same number of games with Tunbridge Wells 12th on goal difference and with two games in hand.

In Division Two Holmesdale beat second placed Tunbridge Wells 2-1, Hythe beat Herne Bay 4-0, we won 1-0 at Lordswood and VCD thumped Croydon 8-0. We stay sixth on 27 points from 20 games.

Well that’s it for another week but before I sign off I would just like to add my congratulations to Ebbsfleet Utd for reaching the final of the F.A. Trophy at Wembley for the first time in their history. I wonder how many of those fans who turned their back on the Club at the beginning of the season when they changed their name from Gravesend and Northfleet will be in the queue for tickets?

Next Saturday sees the visit of Tunbridge Wells to Salters Lane for a Premier Division clash, then on Monday we travel to Holmesdale for the rearranged game. See you there!
