The semi-finals of the Kent Senior Trophy dominated the Kent League scene this weekend and both finished in 2-1 wins for the home sides.
Early goals for Scott Mulholland and Rikki Cable put Thamesmead Town 2-0 up within a quarter of an hour against Deal, but an 80 th minute strike by Mark Munday set up an exciting and tense last 10 minutes before Mead emerged victorious.
The tie at Beckenham went to extra time with the sides locked at one apiece at 90 minutes, an 80 th minute goal from Theo Fairweather-Johnson cancelling out a first minute strike by Badhur Mohammed for visitors Greenwich Borough. Nick Reeves settled the game in the home sides favour in the 101 st minute to take them through to the final at Whitstable in April.
In the Premier Division second placed VCD were held 0-0 at home by Erith and Belvedere which meant that Hythe Town extended their lead to six points thanks to a 3-2 win at fifth placed Erith. All the goals came after the break, with a Buster Smissen double and a penalty from Lee Winfield putting the visitors 3-0 up before Kevin George reduced the arrears with seven minutes left. Shawn Mitchell pulled a further goal back for Erith five minutes later but it was little more than a consolation for the Dockers.
Tunbridge Wells continued their recent good run with a 2-0 win at home to Sevenoaks Town, a result which lifts them above Faversham into 13 th. Lloyd Gofton and Mike Lord were the Wells scorers.
The other game in the Premier Division between Sporting Bengal and Lordswood ended goal-less.
Faversham are now 14 th on 18 points from 23 games, two points behind Tunbridge Wells who have three games in hand and a point in front of Slade Green from the same number of games.
In Division 2 there Dover returned to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw at Sittingbourne during the week. There were also wins for Tunbridge Wells, Greenwich and Herne Bay while the Hythe Town v VCD finished 1-1. We are now eighth on 21 points from 18 games.
Well, that’s it for another week. Next Saturday the Reserves are back in action at Salters Lane as we entertain Hythe Town in a Division 2 encounter, while the First Team make the trip to Sevenoaks. Before that though the final of the Kent County League Floodlight Trophy is being held at Salters Lane on Tuesday evening. The game is between Bly Spartans and New Romney, with a 7.30 kick off.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mums out there.
