Having gone top following the mid week results Hythe Town consolidated their position with a 4-2 win at Sevenoaks. Lee Winfield got the visitors off to the best possible start with a 4 th minute goal and Buster Smissen increased the lead two minutes later. Luke Piscina pulled one back on 37 minutes but strikes after the break by Pat Kingwell and Jason Brazier had ensured the points before Andy Constable hit a last minute consolation.
This leaves Hythe three points clear of second placed Beckenham, who didn’t play, and six clear of Thamesmead Town who have two games in hand.
Erith Town are now fourth after winning 1-0 at Herne Bay thanks to a 28th minute goal by much-travelled Ross cable while VCD Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw at Holmesdale. The home side took the lead on 16 minutes but a last minute strike by Richard Sinden took a point for the Vickers.
Top scorers of the day were Tunbridge Wells who beat Croydon 7-0, the second week running that the Surrey side have conceded seven. The Wells scorers were Joe Fuller (2), Elliot Everson (2), Lloyd Gofton, Dan Jeffery and Joe Hitchings. This result lifted Wells off of the bottom and up to 14th, three points behind us in 13th.
Sporting Bengal replace them at the bottom following a 4-0 defeat at Erith and Belvedere, for whom skipper Steve White found the net twice. The other goals were scored by Aiden Purseglove and Lee Benavente.
Lordswood chalked up their fourth home win of the season with a 4-1 defeat of Deal Town. Darren Marsden, Adrian Bagshaw, Lee Farrell and Lucas Allegro were the Lords’ scorers while Dave Bathgate scored an 88th minute consolation for Deal.
The day’s other Premier Division game ended all square as Slade Green came from a goal down at home to Greenwich Borough to draw 1-1 thanks to a Lee Barnett strike in the 82nd minute.
Only two games were played in Division 2 and they resulted in wins for Greenwich and Holmesdale.
Well, that’s it for another week. The First Team are without a game next Saturday following the decision to postpone the league game at Holmesdale in favour of their Reserves Kent Junior Cup semi final, but on Tuesday we entertain VCD Athletic in a match postponed from 12th February due to fog. On Saturday the Reserves take on Greenwich Borough at Salters Lane, kick off 3.00 p.m.
