The recent wet weather decimated the Kent League programme this weekend, with not a single game played in Divisions 1 or 2 and the involvement of VCD and Greenwich in the FA Vase (sponsored by Carlsberg) causing further postponements.

I am pleased the report that both Kent League sides made it through to the last 32, at which stage the competition goes fully national. VCD made the trip Spartan League Ampthill Town and came away with a 3-1 win while Greenwich beat Wembley 2-1 at home. Let's hope the draw on Monday is kind to both Clubs.

In the Premier Division Thamesmead missed the chance to go top after suffering a shock 4-2 home defeat by Sevenoaks, for whom Tony Atkins scored all 4. Rikki Cable and Curtis Williams were the 'Mead scorers. This leaves Thamesmead second, three points behind leaders Beckenham, who didn't play, but with three games in hand.

Herne Bay moved up to fourth thanks to a 2-2 draw at home to Erith and Belvedere. Simon Brown and Martin Chandler gave Bay a two goal lead but late goals from Matt Johnson and Paul Gross ensured the points were shared.

Croydon's six game unbeaten run came to and with a 2-0 defeat at home to Lordswood, Mark Vernon and Martin Difede finding the net for the Lords. This leaves Croydon in sixth and lifts Lordswood one place to twelfth.

Although Sporting Bengal's game against Beckenham was one of the many casualties of the wet weather, our draw at Erith Town was not enough to lift us off of the bottom although the gap is now just one point and we have a game in hand.

Well, that's it for another week. Next Saturday forget the Christmas shopping and come to Salters Lane to cheer the First Team on as we entertain Erith and Belvedere in the Premier Division still looking for that elusive first home win. The Reserves are without a game.
