Despite suffering their first loss of the season in a 4-2 defeat at Erith and Belvedere as the 'Manager of the Month' curse struck again, Thamesmead Town remain top of the Premier Division on goal difference from Beckenham.
Former Faversham man Rikki Cable opened the scoring for 'Mead on 18 minutes, but goals from Sam Prett, Nick Smith and Matt Johnson gave the home side a 3-1 advantage going into the last two minutes. An own goal by Chris Perisisimou on 89 minutes gave the visitors hope of taking at least a point, but a second from Matt Johnson with virtually the last kick of the match sealed the win for the 'Deres, who climb to fifth.
Beckenham failed to take advantage of this slip as they were held 1-1 at home by Lordswood. The man with surely the longest name in the Kent League, Theo Fairweather-Johnson was the scorer for the Becks after two minutes, with Scott Bucklen equalising for Lordswood.
Erith Town are now the only unbeaten side in the Premier Division thanks to a 2-0 win at home to Greenwich Borough, the goals coming either side of half time through Mark Tompkins and Marcus Cassius, his ninth of the season.
Despite taking a sixth minute lead through Gary Cook VCD were taken to the wire by a spirited Slade Green. Sean May added a second for the Vickers before half time, but a penalty from Lee Barnett reduced the deficit just before the hour. A Craig Thompson own goal restored the two goal advantage with just two minutes left but Green fought back and John Paul McKey, scorer against Faversham last month, struck in the last minute to leave the final score 3-2.
Biggest winners of the day were Deal Town who beat Tunbridge Wells 4-0, all the goals coming in the second half. A Dave Bathgate penalty straight after the restart saw the floodgates open and there were further goals for David Cory, Michael Cassar and Mark Pollard.
It was a game of two halves at Sevenoaks as the home side took a 2-0 advantage into the break thanks to goals from Tony Atkins and Luke Piscino, only for second half goals from Neil John and Ross Cable, making his league debut for Croydon, to take a point.
Sporting Bengal failed to take advantage of Faversham not having a game this weekend as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Herne Bay. Roy Guiver and Aaron Firth are the men we have to thank.
In Division 2 Tunbridge Wells returned to winning ways with a 3-0 defeat of Holmesdale, while Herne Bay and Lordswood drew 1-1.
This result pushes us down to ninth following the defeat by VCD.
Well, that's it for another week. There are no midweek games involving Faversham this week, but on Saturday the First Team make the short trip to Herne Bay while the Reserves look to bounce back at home to Lordswood.
See you there!
