With the League Cup taking centre stage again this week, there was only one Premier Division game played, and it saw second placed Beckenham close the gap on leaders Thamesmead to one point as they beat Sevenoaks 2-1 at Greatness Park. Jamott Darrant gave the visitors an early lead in the eighth minute but Tony Atkins equalised on 51 minutes. With time running out a draw looked the likely result but a Pat Hitchins strike on 82 minutes secured the points for the visitors.

In the other League Cup Group B game Thamesmead and Erith and Belvedere drew 1-1 to leave Faversham firmly rooted to the bottom of the group table. Nick Smith put the 'Deres in front after 20 minutes and Richard Dimmock equalised 12 minutes later.

In Group A, Herne Bay and Greenwich drew 1-1, Aaron Firth and Peter Smith being the scorers and VCD beat Tunbridge Wells 3-1. David Hunt put the home side in front only for Mike Lord to equalise five minutes later to send the teams in level at the break. Second half goals from Darren Thomson and Richard Sinden ensured that VCD took the points.

In Group C a last minute penalty from Adam Douglas snatched a point for Lordswood at home to Croydon after Sam Ayiva had given the visitors the lead after hal a hour. Croydon stay top of the group despite Erith Town winning 4-0 at Sporting Bengal with goals from Mamha Cho, Mark Tompkins, John Coleman and Danny Twinn.

The only game in Group D saw Hythe Town secure a predictable win at home to Slade Green by 5-1 despite Green taking an early lead through Dean Levy. A Roy Godden hat-trick, including two in two minutes and strikes from Buster Smissen and Lee Winfield gave Hythe the points that see them remain top of the group.

Holmesdale progressed to the next round of the Kent Intermediate Shield with a 4-0 win at one of my favourite Kent County League sides, Lydd Town.

Something had to give in the only game other than Faversham v Deal in Division 2 as the two sides with 100% records clashed at Culverden Stadium, Tunbridge Wells. Visitors Dover emerged with a 3-1 win to make it nine straight wins and extend their lead at the top to nine points. Faversham move up to eighth on nine points from seven games.

Well, that's it for another week. The First Team return to league action at Salters Lane on Tuesday with the visit of league new boys Holmesdale. Let's get behind the boys and roar 'em on to that elusive first home win!
