There was a full programme in the Premier Division this week, before we return to League Cup action next weekend..
Leaders Thamesmead recorded their eighth straight win with a 4-0 win at home to Lordswood. Curtis Williams, Richard Dimmock (2) and Jmaes Brown were the 'Mead scorers.
Second placed Beckenham and Hythe clocked up the highest aggregate score on a day when 41 goals were scored in the Division with Beckenham running out 6-3 winners. Hythe took the lead on 5 minutes through Jason Brazier, but a Ross Cable penalty restored parity 5 minutes later to send the sides in level at half time.
Jason Thompson put the home side in front within a minute of the restart, but Ian Hayes equalised two minutes later. A second Cable penalty and a strike from Nick Curran gave the Becks a 4-2 lead before Buster Smissen pulled one back on 68 minutes but goals from Lenny Piper and Joe Healy ensured the win to keep Beckenham in touch with the leaders.
VCD went back to third with a 2-1 victory at Deal, our opponents next Saturday. Leroy Huggins struck for the visitors in the first minute and an Asley Probetts penalty sent them in with a 2-0 half time lead. Dave Cory pulled one back for Deal on 80 minutes but it was too little, too late
Greenwich are fourth after a 5-1 mauling of bottom side Sporting Bengal. Bingi Grant took his total to 6 goals in 3 games with a first half brace, and Badhur Mohammed also helped himself to a couple as Greenwich took a 4-0 lead by half time. Ben Moreno pulled one back soon after the restart to give Sporting a glimmer of hope, but Peter Smith secured a comfortable win with Borough's fifth and final goal in the 69th minute.
Slade Green were brought back down to earth after last week's win at Salters Lane with a 2-0 home defeat against Croydon. Neil John and Matt Knuckey were the Surrey side's scorers, both goals coming in the second half.
Holmesdale recorded that elusive second win of the season with a fine 4-2 win at home to Sevenoaks after Matt Pearson had given the visitors an early lead. However, goals from Chris Hatt and Joel Hughes put the home side in front by half time. Daniel McDiarmuid then struck twice to give them a 4-1 lead to ensure that Perry Spackman's 87th minute goal was little more than a consolation for the 'Oaks.
Remarkably, on a day of high scores, the match between Erith and Belvedere and Herne Bay remained goal less. In Division 2 there were wins for Ashford, Deal and Tunbridge Wells, as well as Dover Athletic at Salters Lane, while the games at Hythe and Lordswood finished as draws.
This leaves Dover top with maximum points from 8 games, with Tunbridge Wells second also on maxiumum points but from 6 games. Faversham remain tenth.
As I said at the beginning, we return to League Cup action on Saturday as the First Team travel to Deal, while the Reserves entertain Deal reserves in a League match. Incidentally, the attendance at the Reserves game against Dover was 88, which would have been the third highest attendance in the Premier Division. If you are not making the trip to Deal come along to Salters Lane, bring a friend, and let's see if we can get over the 100 mark again.
See you there!
