Town secretary ALAN TRENT is so keen on Kent League football he's
posted his weekly round-up a day earlier than usual. We can't think of a
better name for his column, however, so here is Sunday Service - on a
Saturday night!
THERE was a full programme in the Premier Division this week and pride
of place must go to Thamesmead Town.
They ran out 10-3 winners over Sporting Bengal although it's a shame
that just 39 people turned out to watch them.
This is the second time Sporting have been hit for 10, the last rout
came against Cray Wanderers in 2003/2004.
Former Town star Rikki Cable scored twice for Thamesmead while brother
Ross - our top scorer last season - fired the winner for Beckenham in
the 89th minute as they beat Deal Town 2-1.
There was also a good win for strongly fancied Whitstable who thumped
Erith Town 4-0.
The day's only other winners, apart from the Lilywhites, were Herne
Bay whose 1-0 win over Tunbridge Wells attracted the largest attendance
of the day - 115.
Croydon picked up their first point of the season against Lordswood,
our opponents on Monday, drawing 0-0.
Meanwhile, Hythe drew 2-2 at home to Erith & Belvedere and Slade
Green's clash at Sevenoaks finished 3-3.
At this early stage of the season there are five teams on six points,
including Faversham in fourth place.
Thamesmead top the table on goal difference from Whitstable, who have
yet to concede a goal in any competition, with Beckenham in third.
At the other end of the table it is already looking like a hard season
for Tunbridge Wells, who have not earned a point from their four games.
However, they are kept off of the bottom on goal difference by
Sporting Bengal.
Don't forget we have a game on Bank Holiday Monday, at home to
Lordswood, which kicks off at 3.00pm.
